But Youngest looked at me with those adorable eyes of his, and it never even crossed my mind to say no. Or to even try to convince him to bring something else. So, I spent all of wednesday afternoon baking and decorating...get this...57 small cupcakes, and 24 regular-sized cupcakes. Here's pictures.
I'm pretty happy with them, though I wasn't as precise as usual. I started running out of steam after four hours. :) But the kids loved them, and that's what's important. :)

You definitely win the Writer-Mom of the Decade award. My idea of decorating cupcakes is canned frosting... and maybe sprinkles. And even that was exhausting! (and I am so glad that part of my life is in the past tense!)
I am in AWE.
Thanks. :) Though my cake decorating is more like therapy, so I always find myself looking forward to it. :)
Those are beautiful! My son says he wants me to order the one with the green flower.
WOW. I am in awe of those cups. I would have made it about a fourth of the way before I gave up and decorated the rest with random globs of frosting.
Wow oh WOW! Those are fantastic in my eyes. You've got talent in the cupcake decorating department :)
Oh gosh is this all kinds of yum??? I'm teaching a class in the fall to 3rd-5th graders based on the book Hello Cupcake! I'm glad Sherrie escorted me over in your direction!!
I'm totally impressed and wishing you were next door so I could "casually" drop in when I smell cupcakes baking.
Those cupcakes are gorgeous! As someone who used to (attempt) to decorate cakes, there's some serious artistry in there! :)
Thanks, everyone. :)
Vicki, if your son was in Chicago, I'd happily have given him the one with the green flower. :)
I have a question. How did you make the icing stiff enough to hold the shape of what you were piping? Did you just add more confectioners sugar or did you have a particular recipie?Love the cakes!
